These images of the Lake Erie seiche exposing the lake floor reminds me of images from Mars where water used to exist billions of years ago.

Just heard George Smoot passed away. The driving force behind the 1989 COBE mission that detected temp differences in the early universe. The blue areas are 1 millionth of a degree cooler than the red areas - just enough for the first stars to form. Smoot donated his Noble prize money to education.

The Baby Boom birthrates was really a revert to the norm after the Great Depression & WWII but vaccine advancements reduced infant mortality then the pill came along in the 60's. The current admin wants to take away both birth control and vaccines which would offset each other (rather tragically).

A lot of people my age still have this image of the Bronx, but I lived there a couple years ago and am happy to report it is a vibrant, diverse community these days. Photo below is from 1981 by Camilo Vergara/NYPL.
