Happy publication day to me! The Movie Lover’s Quiz Book is out now. Signed copies available at the British Library Shop and unsigned copies wherever you buy your books from! Thanks to @summersdalebooks.bsky.social for being excellent. @zenoagency.bsky.social
Me stood behind the counter in the British Library Bookshop holding a copy of The Movie Lover’s Quiz Book. There is (on the counter) a stack of the book, one stood face out & a sheet of stickers.

Not sure I would read that as I’ve never read any of the Narnia books - they never appealed to me. I’d be tempted though as I love Spufford!

Finished this today, very enjoyable & another left turn by the author. I’ve read all his books since Golden Hill & each one is entirely different. He’s in David Mitchell territory here, aincient forces used to try & change the course of WW2. Good stuff.

It's the final moment
Of the final
And time finger's raised
And there's a tear in the eye.
Cos past the floodlights
Flying high
There's a lone bird soaring
In the Barnsley sky.

A poem about Dickie Bird by Ian McMillan which he read out on BBC Radio Sheffield earlier today:

It's the final over
Of the final test
And Time is bowling
The final ball;
And the innings that stretched To 92
Will end just here
'Cos it's umpire's call.

Am bringing my book quiz to @oldwoollen.bsky.social Nov 2nd for Farsley Lit Fest. The guy on the night before was in a band called ‘The Smiths’, odd name, good luck to him though @trumanbooks.bsky.social
A screenshot of 2 event listings. The left is Mike Joyce (The Smiths) & right is me & my book quiz. Quite the juxtaposition for a big Smiths fan (me not Joyce… well, anyway).

Went to the Garden Cinema for the first time last night (delightful) & saw ‘The Golden Spurtle’ a documentary about an annual porridge making competition. Fantastic stuff all round. Good wall art too… we will be back!
