But people that are content will usually be a lot quieter. There will be lots of criticism but just remember that for every person screaming you need to fix something there will be 4 or 5 people at least who are happy you made it but didn't feel like screaming it to the heavens. 2/2

I can tell you it would not. You are an amazing person froox, and a great developer. And although people complain there's one thing you need to remember. When it comes to feedback and reviews, the extremes are always going to be more visible. Angry people will scream from the rooftops. 1/2

Well, it could be worse. You could've been playing a VR game till 6am. What do you mean I'm being very specific about something I've definitely not done just last night...

I don't know if you've looked into it or not but Envision is a tool to help setup an alternative called Monado along with OpenComposite for compatibility. Is it perfect? no but it's better than SteamVR and is improving pretty rapidly compared to SteamVR.

VR on Linux is in a bit of a state, and SteamVR (the go-to software) being as broken as it is is hindering people to go across. And being the native solution in Steam means when it is broken people just give up on VR. Valve needs to up their game especially if they want to do something like Deckard

And what about Alpine Linux?

Don't cry. Although you no longer have an arm, you have something better.

You have a peaky!
April 29, 2024 at 8:45 AM
It's peaky's arm now, aki. There's nothing you can do about it
April 28, 2024 at 7:59 PM
It's not your arm anymore. It belongs to the peaky

Fair enough. If an app claims to be multi-platform and provides binaries for only one platform, that's a problem the developer needs to fix. Especially if Linux is the platform that is built and mac and Windows are not. Especially given build systems on those platforms are complete pains in the arse

Github can host binaries, but that is not the primary feature of github. Github is generally developers first to share code between developers and help with collaboration. Features like releases (where you can find built applications) were added for users that are less technical to use.

A lot of devs just want to work on their project. Also, it may be a passion project, meaning they intended it mainly for them so they won't put a whole lot of effort into making a fancy website. Or they just don't know how and have done the best they can in a readme, which is what github recommends.

If there's a project that doesn't offer a binary and/or graphical interface, there will usually be a project that gives both. Also, if a project is written in Python, it will likely never get an exe. Maybe a script if the author has thought it'd be used by non technical people.

The problem comes from features like "releases", which are aimed at users, but the platform as a whole is tailored to devs. But a lot of repos are just someone's project they dumped onto the Internet so that somebody can continue it or they get traffic so they can justify putting more work into it.
February 19, 2024 at 1:33 PM
Probably doesn't help that some big projects that get video tutorials usually follow the same "go to github and download the exe" instructions and then when it's not but people go to github they immediately go "Where's the exe?". But I agree that most of the time github is for developers not users.
