Also I'll say that Pathologic 3 works hard to to explain each of systems and gives you a little wiggle room to go back in time if you fuck up. That counts for something.

I haven't played Pathologic 1 (though I've heard that this is really in conversation with it in direct ways that Path 2 wasn't). I would say to start with whatever you'll actually play and then continue on if you like it/want more. They are all complete things on their own. Don't overthink it!

Silent Hill has never been subtle, but it has often had subtleties. I think SHf is on exactly this wavelength. The big horror themes are obvious and the individual moments and textures are so vivid and specific.

Look, the game’s flaws become more apparent as you go on, it explains too much, ends too tidy. But seeing some people suggest that it is nothing but obvious and trite and I really could not disagree more.
