Photographed at Birmingham Museums Collection Centre, Birmingham, UK. The Collection Centre is where Birmingham Museums keep all the artefacts that are not actually on display in any of the city’s museums. It isn’t generally open to the public but can be accessed on occasional heritage days. It’s basically a massive warehouse filled with an eclectic mix of weird and wonderful treasures, such as this gruesome sculpture of a severed head on a plate.

One of my favourite buildings, The Cube, photographed from Gas Street Basin, Birmingham, UK. Another photograph I took of The Cube but from much closer. This image from 2017, showing the unique pattern formed by the cladding, was used as the basis for a couple of paintings I later did of the building which The Cube (2017), acrylics on canvas. Self portrait in a style inspired by Picasso following the rediscovery of the forgotten sketchbook. Black gloss house paint and acrylics on an old ceramic floor tile (October 2025). Painting on the tile seemed appropriate as Picasso often painted on pottery and ceramics.

A National Federation Of Women Workers banner used during the 1910 strike by the Cradley Heath women chain makers. A page from a forgotten sketch book recently rediscovered whilst searching my shelves for something else. Here’s a sketch of the entrance to the famous Abbey Road Studios where the Beatles recorded the album that bears its name. I was in the area to watch cricket during the summer of 2017 at another legendary place, Lords, but like many Beatles fans before me, just had to make a detour to see the studios and cross the road using the same zebra crossing that the Fab Four were photographed on for the album cover.

Although at first glance the horses in this photograph may look real they are in fact sculptures made from scrap metal by the British Ironworks Centre and seen at their sculpture park in Shropshire, UK. It’s a lot easier to capture one of the sculptures jumping a fence than it would be a real horse!

Trying to decide which version I like best is impossible. Things are always more complicated than they seem. My heart says one thing but invariably my head has other ideas. Why can’t they ever agree? Linocut print on paper. Linocut print on paper previously painted with red acrylic. Linocut print on paper previously coloured using soft pastels and then hand finished with acrylic paint.
