Knits too much.
Then in Malta, I was not expecting this.

La Rue d'Italie in Aix-en-Provence. The roundish thing in the decoration is a calisson. Further down the street there's a sort of leafy shape in the banner. We never did decide what that was.

Marathon day in Freiburg.

Alocohol in German is usually der. Beer is das. Not considered alcohol?

It was not obvious to me how the bread got out. It turns out the metal struts on the side are hinged. You use the paddle to shove the bread out that way. It helps to see someone do it.

Sidewalk circles

A sidewalk circle carefully made with an access hatch in it and carefully aligned.

The costumes say Random Pick-up Band but the choreography says otherwise.

I'm not sure what these instruments are but I want one. They look so cool. I think they might be Martinshorns. Definitely the perfect instrument to carry during Carnaval, and if you can play it, so much the better.

And now a new series of pictures. Freiburg has circles set in the sidewalk that mostly reflect the nature of the business they're in front of. Here are a couple of ink balls from in front of the Badische Zeitung which is in the building to the left of the Martinstor.

All the bands have these cool drum stands on wheels.

I wonder if the wigs are like British barrister's wigs, where the older and nastier they are, the more desirable they are.

More Fasching, aka Fasnet, Fashion.

Today is Fasching. Or Fasching begins. The band had enough brass that you felt it before you heard it. I do love a good brass band.

On my way to becoming legal, on a day when the drizzle was the sort where you think you don't need an umbrella yet somehow you're quite wet, I smelled a lovely smell. It made me look up. I wish I could share it.

I think I'll be eating more fish here. The fish have bright eyes and the store smells clean. I doubt the same family has been here since 1395, but who knows?

To be sung to Sting's "Englishman in New York", in the style of Tom Lerer and his 88 string guitar, where it don't matter if you put a extra couple syllables into a line.

Ich bin legale, Ich bin eine legale Ausländerin in Freiburg.

Sunday's Spaziergang; looking SW across the Dreisam from the Schlossberg. In the lower right, behind some trees, the river goes down a series of shallow steps. My apartment is in here somewhere.

The stone lace of the Freiburg Münster tower is really quite lovely.
