esp bc now that maximalism is trendy, I see lots of people filling their spaces with dropshipped knick knacks or investing in amazon lists of 'maximalist aesthetic buys' and spending tons of money on it, which seems counter to the idea they're peddling... but it all comes back to consumption as ID!

yeah! or having like... a homogenous aesthetic and consumerism identity that HAS to be tied to your personal identity! I think consumption as identity is kind of shitty, honestly -- fun to connect over, fun for a laugh, definitely not fun when taken literally
