I’m just here to like your posts when you have something sensible or nice to say
Europe have pushed back ban on diesel & petrol cars to protect EU car manufacturers who are loosing market share outside EU & face unstable raw material costs. It all relates to reliance on 🇨🇳 & 🇺🇸.
UK needs more EV domestic production , different priorities

Ireland pop < 6,000,000

Irish diaspora pop > 60,000,000

Oh the irony.

Lots of interesting topics 👍
Small Cupra looks great. Interesting how China are making battery swap tech work. Fantastic battery tech from Toyota (at last) & that solar heat store, I wonder if such tech could be used to make bricks 🧱? Great explanation of how solar panels are superior to oil crops.

Yet public charging in Germany is cheaper than Uk but not as cheap as Spain which is still more expensive than France or Portugal or … or …

UK has cheaper home charging than Germany on tariffs that charge less at time of low use 12:30am-5:30am
because Germany still has big industry using power 24/7

SOARE? Hmm

Only those with official range over 80km are worth considering
Without stressing the battery and accounting for cold weather you need to be able to manage most days on half the range.

PHEVs with range over 100km exist.

PHEVs are great if your the sort of driver that rarely drives more than 20 miles a day but when you do venture further which is rarely you head for the mountains which are a couple of hundred miles away or more.

That’s not a lot of people but if that’s you, go for it.

It’s not a surprise, Bentley and Lamborghini have PHEVs

It’s not anything like a Lotus sports car, it’s a heavy weight SUV built in China

It’s sort of like a Cybertruck for British people.

It probably shouldn’t exist.

Yes but remember the generosity of those free Tesla Peak-power ota updates back around 2020?

December 9, 2025 at 9:02 AM
50 Cent/kWh ist ein fairer Preis, 60 Cent/kWh sind ungefähr der Preis, den man mit einem Abonnement an einer 7-kW-Ladestation in Großbritannien zahlt. Ohne Abonnement zahlt man meist 85–89 Pence (1 Euro). Und das berichten unsere Zeitungen?

Anstatt also ein Problem anzugehen, schaffen wir ein anderes Problem
December 8, 2025 at 6:25 PM

Labour, Lib Dem’s, Greens, Plaid Cumru, SNP, even Alba, 2 NI parties all pro customs union or full EU rejoin.

Only Tories, Reform, DUP and if they still exist some minor loonie parties like SDP against and Sinn Fein not having a clear policy.

Germany is a bad example:

They messed up decommissioning nuclear before end of life , importing Russian gas and now have temporary high costs moving to renewables in double quick time.

ICE SUVs use twice the fuel of economy ICE cars.

Biggest and heaviest EVs use twice the electric of economy ones.

No getting around that.

E-bikes use less than a tenth of electricity of any Electric car with a tiny fraction of the build costs
December 8, 2025 at 9:56 AM
I wouldn’t usually plug Chinese EVs but latest news is BYD Kei car is rumoured to be comming to UK
That should really offer cheap motoring.
December 8, 2025 at 9:48 AM
Electric cars are much less polluting. Although more carbon positive in production that’s quicker offset by the lower carbon emissions of UK electric.

Running costs?
BP & Shell own much of the fast changing infrastructure.
For some reason they’ve chosen to price ⚡️ over ⛽️.

Other ⚡️🔌 are available!

Is 23 less than 21 Dave?

89p per kWh with Charing losses & motorway speeds ~ 30p / mile
Gallon of petrol £6.30
Cost equivalent 21mpg

But don’t worry with home charging that can be 210mpg and on cheaper charge points still over 45mpg in terms of cost.

Carbon impact 🇬🇧⚡️~~~ 500 mpg
x 10+ benefit 🤩

You just tell them your mileage. If there’s reason to suspect you are lying mileage is recorded at MOT time and currently optionally at sale time.
Modern PHEVs actually log mileage and plug in data under EU rules so there are ways of catching anyone not telling truth. Not sure about foreign travel?
