Of course it'll need to age at least 3-6 months in the bottles, so we'll probably get to drink it next summer. Need to make a pipeline of homemade wine so that we have new bottles every six months 😎

My little project for this year has been making wine from blackberries we picked - using the wild yeast - true hedgerow wine. After about 10 weeks of ferment, I've now racked it into another fermenter for the final long ferment. Into bottles for aging right before Christmas ⛄

To become a British citizen, you must say an oath of allegiance to the monarch. The legal requirement is to clearly say the oath

But, physically holding a copy of the US Constitution and sarcastically saying "but the UK should be a republic" at the end is absolutely legal lol

In less than a week I get to apply for ILR (permanent residency in the UK) and the day after, for British naturalisation as a citizen. Wild 5 year ride. And expensive lol - but it's almost here. After that, I never have to worry about the Home Office or immigration again

It's been very strange to have been away for 5 years and all of this to happen. The conversation here in Europe very quickly went from "this will be a weird and shitty four years" to "the US probably has a kill switch in the F35 and is our enemy" very quick

At this point I just feel a deep sadness for the fact there's no escape from being an alien in a foreign land and there never will be. All lands are foreign to me now and no place is comfy. The UK is a place of increasing isolation and stress and I'm honestly unsure of what to do.

Feeling far from home is really difficult here because "home" no longer has any meaning. My house in the UK is home. Virginia was home, but no longer is. The worst part is VA circa 2019 when I left is gone. Covid, Trump, 5 years of time gone by... It doesn't exist anymore
