There aren’t words to describe the shattering of our sense of safety that comes with truly horrific events like the Bondi attack.

My heart breaks for our Jewish communities targeted for simply practicing their faith on what should have been a night of celebration.

Victorian Labor have deliberately ignored the need to upgrade this vital community health facility for years. I toured it almost 3 years ago and saw first hand the cracked and leaking walls in desperate need of repair, and repeatedly raised concerns with the government.
Vulnerable to be cut off from free medical checks as Melbourne clinics axe services
One of Australia’s largest community health organisations say funding shortfalls are forcing it to cut GP services and sell its Collingwood clinic.

After years of Greens pressure, Labor have finally realised that renters have rights! The changes announced today are welcome.

But our work isn’t done.

The world is on fire because of decisions like these by Labor.

Decisions that knowingly betray our planet and the future of every young person on it.

How do they sleep at night?

Let me be clear: racism and white supremacy, here and everywhere, must be quashed.

These vile attacks and blatant racism are a terrifying reminder of why we must stand together against hate in all its forms.

My heart goes out to the students, families, and school community affected by the school bus crash in Stonehaven. My thoughts are also with the first responders who are providing care in such challenging circumstances. Just devastating.

Labor has joined the rest of the world in recognition of the fundamental right of Palestinian statehood. This is welcome, if long overdue – it should have happened decades ago.

But words mean nothing without action.

Children have a remarkable ability to laugh and smile, even in the most dire circumstances. However, one of the first signs of starvation in children is apathy.

Doctors and aid workers have been telling us for months:

The children of Gaza have stopped smiling.

Sanctions now.

We’re hearing of journalists in Gaza no longer able to pick up their cameras due to being too weak, as Palestinians are being starved. Meanwhile, Labor punishes Mehreen Faruqi for telling this truth:

The Israeli Government is starving the people of Gaza.

End the arms trade. Sanction Israel.

What a joke. The least this climate wrecking tax evading multibillion dollar corporation could do is clean up after itself. But instead, the government lets them get away with lumping the cost on citizens and the environment.
Decades-old deal sees taxpayers hit with $500m bill for Chevron clean-up
Government documents reveal WA taxpayers will pay an estimated half a billion dollars to rehabilitate areas of Barrow Island impacted by Chevron's oil and gas project.

Labor are a disgrace. Once again they’ve delayed even modest reform. It’s beyond comprehension that they allow harm from pokies to continue. Pokies cause utter devastation for so many people in our community - not just those experiencing addiction, but everyone around them too. #blowupthepokies
'Horribly normalised addiction': Gambling harm in Victoria reaches $14b
The social cost of gambling in Victoria, such as bankruptcy, loss of productivity at work, mental ill-health, and divorce, has reached $14 billion, a new study has found.

You cannot bomb your way to peace.

From Afghanistan to Iraq, our Federal Government has followed the US into brutal wars that have only led to untold devastation for generations of people across the region. Australia must not be drawn into another endless conflict.

3,593 Victorians agree that pulling down an oil and gas rigs next to RAMSAR listed wetlands should have the highest environmental scrutiny.

Tonight I debated their petition in parliament calling for an Environmental Effects Statement for the decommissioning of Esso’s retired gas rig in Gippsland.

This is a welcome move from the Victorian government, and we urge the government to bring this legislation to parliament as soon as possible. Victim survivors of institutional abuse - including in Ballarat - have already waited too long to have their legal rights protected.
Victoria to propose laws making churches vicariously responsible for abuse
Churches will be held vicariously liable for abuse committed by priests under new Victorian laws to be introduced to parliament by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Labor is busily green-lighting new fossil fuel projects.

They might as well be lighting the match.

They are climate criminals.

This is a sensible and long-overdue change that will significantly improve access to care for people with ADHD. Victoria should do the same.

We are going backwards, not closing the gap. Only 4 of 19 targets are on track to be met, an absolute indictment on governments at all levels. Yet the VIC govt’s response? Rushed justice changes that will increase unnecessary incarceration of First Peoples, especially women and children.
