That makes the original post even more baffling.

The Beatles are in. Among the first inductees. They aren’t all in as solo artists. And no way Ringo should be as a solo act. And I fail to see why solo George would be either.

Wow. You do not get it. People already able to pay the bills are far better able to pursue their passion for art or acting or whatever else. That’s the point. Kids out of high school or college who have to pay for everything themselves (like I did) need jobs that pay, not passion jobs.

It’s not really about whales, sr all.

Not if you’re upper class.

These Gaza Kushner resorts - who will construct them? Who will staff them?

Why don’t you start by telling us about all the events that were cancelled in Florida, Texas, Louisiana, New York, or anywhere else whereby they donated the money to X instead. I’ll wait. Hell, I’ll take when it happened in another country.
January 17, 2025 at 7:00 AM
2/ please point to any recent natural or other disaster where everything was cancelled afterwards. I will wait (as in, you will never post such an example.)

No one who works in the industry is calling for anything to be cancelled. Disneyworld opened right after the hurricanes in Florida. Sporting events went on shortly after 9-11. He’ll Bush told Americans to go about their lives! I don’t see any precedent or sound reason for what you are proposing. 1/

Again, this is about the thousands of not famous people who make a living putting together or adjacent to awards shows (or for that matter the upcoming Olympics), none of whom are famous or will get “publicity.” LA’s economy should be WORSE? For why?
January 17, 2025 at 12:03 AM
No one else MAKES money from the Oscars. Other than ABC or the academy itself. The studios and stars SPEND money to campaign for awards. They don’t MAKE money. The workers who put on the show make money. See also the Olympics. Silly to cancel events that put money in workers’ pockets.
January 16, 2025 at 10:09 PM
The thousands of people who work on an awards show like this are caterers, event planners, hotel folks, PR people, stylists, the teamsters who set up and take down the carpet, limo drivers, etc. awards season is a substantial if not a majority of these people’s annual income.
January 16, 2025 at 10:06 PM
The Oscars make money. By cancelling them, there would be LESS money. Including for the thousands of LA residents who are involved in some aspect of the show. So you’d have fewer jobs, lost wages, and squandered dollars.

The better analogy would be unless they rolled back abortion restrictions. Or something else completely no nonsequitor. Because they are talking about maki by California cut taxes.

Really? Then why mention Dane Cook?

For example, Paul Mooney wrote a lot for Prior, per Paul Mooney.

Most big time stand up use or used writers. From Bob Hope through Richard Prior to every awards show host comedian. Including, BTw, when Richard hosted SNL (per Garrett Morris.)

This will hasten the exit of insurers from California, not slow it. The second one year is up, there will be a scramble for the exit.

I think part of the annex Canada spiel is him understanding this, actually.
