Literally had this conversation ("when do we leave?") with my girlfriend last night. Or should I say "continued to have this conversation," since we've been talking on and off about it since November 2024?

I'm writing the newsletter this week on a question I think a lot of us have been pondering: When is it really time to leave the country?

The newsletter is our primary perk for Assigned Members, free to them but not available otherwise. It's the single best way for readers to support our reporting.

According to Dr. Jeffrey Singer, it's likely that this announcement.. and the overemphasis on a few inconclusive studies.. came from RFK Jr.'s self-inflected pressure to announce the "cause of autism" by September.

If you look at the White House press release with studies they use to back up the Tylenol/Autism claim, you don’t have to he a scientist to see the spin. For example, they link the same studies multiple times as though they were different studies to make it seem like they have more evidence.

But in the case of fentanyl addiction, a failed treatment can mean a fatal overdose, Fishman added.. “That’s hardly an appropriate criteria.”

Even for those teens who do receive OUD treatment, few get the most effective treatments—medication assisted therapies like methadone, buprenorphine and Suboxone.. Addiction psychiatrist Marc Fishman says many doctors will wait until other treatments have failed to prescribe MATs to teens.

10 yrs ago, most illicit fentanyl users were adults with a history if opioid use, said Manuel Cano, lead author of the study showing fewer than < 1/3 of teens w OUD are in treatment. Teens experimenting are now more likely to encounter fentanyl as pressed pills..they can buy them on snapchat.

For US teens with opioid use disorder, finding treatment can be can be close to impossible.

Meanwhile, opioid overdose deaths among adolescents nearly tripled between 2018 and 2023, while among adults they went up by 65% .

My latest.

Others saw it as a way of continuing to encourage his followers to accept his word rather than that of anyone else. Hitler Mussolini and Franco each systematically sowed distrust in the scientific consensus of their day to instead forward politically motivated theories of racial purity and eugenics.

Others thought it was part of Project 2025’s larger agenda of exerting more control over women’s bodies, which also includes classification of common contraceptives as “abortifacients”, meaning they end rather than prevent pregnancies, directly contradicting the science of how these methods work.

Autistic readers and their loved ones found the whole conversation distressing, as it frames neurodivergence as some kind of terrible plague. “All this railing against autism and all these conspiracy theories.. At what point does it sound like a call to eugenics?” said one autistic reader.

Pregnant readers who responded pointed out that their options for pain relief through the discomfort of their condition are already extremely limited. It's "blithely ignorant of pregnancy healthcare options. Why am I not surprised by that from Trump?” wrote one reader.

Many readers suspect it's a ploy to distract voters from issues that Trump wants removed from the discourse.

“Tylenol can ease the pain of Epstein?” wondered one reader.

"Trump is like a criminal fleeing the scene, pulling down the furniture to create obstacles for his pursuers.” wrote another.

Tuesday’s congressional hearing on vaccine safety included a moment when audience members applauded the idea that vaccines are a crime against humanity comparable to the Holocaust.
greennoise.bsky.social
Yesterday's congressional hearing on vaccine safety relied on a study that was never published—or even submitted to a journal—to trot out the old myths about vaccines causing chronic illnesses. My latest.

Rinse and repeat: US vaccine hearing on unpublished study debates same myths

Other highlights include Siri saying he is glad he isn’t a doctor because he doesn’t have to “rely on titles”’and Scott being speechless when Johnson asked if he believed when Fauci said the covid vaccine would stay in the arm. (Fauci never said this.)

During the hearing, Ron Johnson played a trailer for a documentary about the unpublished study by the anti-vax group Informed Consent Action Network. The trailer implied vaccines caused autism… even though everyone at the hearing agreed even the unpublished study found no link.

The spokesperson also shared many reason the study was never published, including the fact 75% of unvaccinated children were only observed until age 3, too early for most of the conditions studied to be diagnosed.

Recent update from a @henryfordhealth.bsky.social spokesperson: “Henry Ford Health was unaware this long-rejected and unvalidated draft was being talked about or had somehow been shared, and we were not given the opportunity by Congress to weigh in or testify.”
