Our AGM and @transgreens.bsky.social Interim Committee last week voted to leave X/Twitter. It is quite simply untenable to continue as we were, in the backdrop of everything going on.
We voted to indefinitely suspend use of X. It is pointless to campaign for trans and queer liberation on a website where the only way to be heard is to open yourself to harassment. Some of our reasons include: Cross-posting content from our other social media accounts is inhibited by language policing unique to X/Twitter's version of "free speech", for example being flagged by the site for using words such as "cis" (a scientific term to refer to people who aren't trans). Algorithmic biases, which encourage us to be needlessly controversial to be seen, and which disproportionately benefit right-wing narratives, which results in an experience that is hostile to the mental health of our volunteers and can result in burnout for those involved. Deeply problematic changes to Grok: many news agencies have reported that people are using Grok to sexually harass women and girls by undressing them using AI. xAI paywalling features to generate deepfakes instead of removing the ability to create them is not an acceptable response to sexual abuse. There is a concern that any media of our members (especially committee members) will be used to harass them.
