🚨 BREAKING: Greenpeace activists onboard the Rainbow Warrior have taken decisive action to save nine sharks from deadly longlines in the Tasman Sea.

...Seizing almost 20 kilometres of fishing gear and more than 210 deadly hooks from the ocean.

But Australia still hasn’t ratified. If Australia acts now, we could propose one of the first high seas sanctuaries in the Tasman Sea. If we delay, we risk being left behind.

This only happened because millions of people around the world stood up for the ocean. Together, we showed that when people unite, governments act. For over 20 years, Greenpeace offices around the world have campaigned tirelessly for stronger ocean protection.

By releasing a 2035 emissions target far short of what the best science says is needed to safeguard Australia, the Albanese government has given itself a political & practical problem. There’s only one way out of this mess: 🧵

@albomp.bsky.social’s new 2035 climate target is weak, dangerous, and far short of what’s needed.

Australia owes the Pacific and frontline communities across Australia a plan that is net zero by 2035, and a fast, fair fossil-fuel phase-out.

Australia will vow to cut its emissions by 62 to 70 per cent by 2035, lifting its sights further as the world strives to reach net zero emissions by 2050.

Everything we love is as risk. Deadly heatwaves, rising sea levels swallowing up our coasts, coral reefs and forests disappearing, and their unique wildlife with them. Communities will be forced to move. People and nature will both be pushed to the breaking point if we don't act now.

🚨 BREAKING: @albomp.bsky.social has approved 45 more years of Woodside's dirty gas expansion at the North West Shelf project.

...Risking fragile ecosystems like Scott Reef, and pushing us further away from the 1.5°C limit that Australia committed to.

Scientists say there is emerging evidence of abrupt and potentially unstoppable changes in the Antarctic environment.

...And the changes are heightening the risk of significant sea level rise and the extinction of species, including emperor penguins.

Tough stories recently about bleaching on the GBR and Ningaloo. This year marks the first time reefs on opposite sides of Australia have both bleached.

How many more wake-up calls before we act? Without urgent emissions cuts, our precious places could be gone forever.

'Hope spot' to 'skeletons': Ningaloo's 'catastrophic' event
In Western Australia, the damage to coral reefs including the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo has eclipsed any previous bleaching events.

This month’s ‘With Love,’ marks the 40th anniversary of the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior; and reflects on how, from the depths of grief and anger, was born the unreasonable ambition to take action on an unprecedented scale. Do have a read.

On July 10th 1985, the Rainbow Warrior I was bombed and sank in an attempt to silence anti-nuclear protests in the Pacific.⁣

We remember our crew member, photographer and dear friend, Fernando Pereira, who was killed, and the spirit that lives on 40 years later:⁣

You can't sink a rainbow 🌈🕊⁣
