NYC is already leading, with Local Law 97 reducing big-building emissions and projects like East Side Coastal Resiliency building protection against flooding. But we can always do more. Read more on how cities can take bold action:

“Even amid federal rollbacks, continued action by cities could help the U.S. meet more than two-thirds of its target to cut emissions 61% by 2035,” according to University of Maryland research.

We often say that when the federal government rolls back climate progress, states have to step in. But cities — especially big ones like NYC — are just as essential to building a cleaner, healthier future.

“Every day that the governor doesn’t sign it is another day that we put new gas pipe in the ground that we’re all paying for and the utilities are laughing all the way to the bank,” said Lisa Marshall, a @renewableheatnow.bsky.social member and an organizer for @nyforcleanpower.org.

Last session, lawmakers voted to end the outdated 100-foot rule that forces ratepayers to subsidize new gas hookups. But @governor.ny.gov hasn’t signed it, letting bills keep rising.
greenwatchdogny.bsky.social
New Yorkers’ energy bills are rising at record rates, not because of renewables or clean energy investments, but because of leaky gas pipes and corporate greed.

EANY urges the state to strengthen the Final State Energy Plan with:
✅ A firm timeline for the NY Clean Air Initiative
✅ Ending the outdated 100-foot rule
✅ Expanded Empower+ and GAP funding
✅ More consumer incentives for electrification

3️⃣ NY has proven tools that work: the Clean Energy Fund, the Environmental Bond Act, Empower+, & the Sustainable Future Program. But instead of scaling them up, the Draft SEP proposes delaying solutions like Cap-and-Invest, which would raise billions for clean energy without impacting NY households.
greenwatchdogny.bsky.social
2️⃣ The CLCPA and the 2022 Scoping Plan give NY a roadmap for decarbonization. Our climate law requires the SEP to follow that plan. Delay is not an option—every year of inaction is costly to New Yorkers’ health, safety, and economy.
greenwatchdogny.bsky.social
1️⃣ The SEP falls short of meeting the legal and just commitments of the CLCPA. It recognizes the benefits of bold climate action, lower costs, cleaner air, and tens of thousands of jobs, but fails to commit to delivering them.

EANY’s message on the Draft State Energy Plan (SEP) is clear: New York must uphold the Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act (CLCPA) and deliver on its promise of climate justice, affordability, and clean energy for all New Yorkers.

"Protestors want [Governor Hochul] to publicly oppose a proposed natural gas pipeline backed by the Trump administration. Residents believe a deal between the President and the state would fastrack permits for [NESE] and Constitution pipelines, which opponents say has a reprehensible safety record.”
greenwatchdogny.bsky.social
New Yorkers know that pipelines are not the way forward, and we’re speaking out! @governor.ny.gov: hold the line and stand up against the Trump administration’s fossil fuel bullying!

While the Trump Administration continues its attacks on clean energy and renewables, Albany leaders can and must do everything they can to fill the gaps — not just to advance a sustainable future, but to protect our economy. New Yorkers deserve a clean and healthy future.

VP of Bitzer Scroll John Alcott says, “It impacts us significantly. It would just be far harder to finance the expansion. We’d probably end up dropping some components of the project, and that hurts all around.”

A recent report reveals that the Trump administration has just pulled the plug on a $5 million clean energy grant intended to expand a factory in Syracuse—forcing the project to reconsider going forward and putting jobs and economic benefits at risk.
greenwatchdogny.bsky.social
As the Trump administration actively undermines clean energy and stalls progress on renewables, the U.S. is falling behind. But New York doesn’t have to. @governor.ny.gov and our state leaders must stand up for climate progress more strongly than ever.

“The Climate Action Grant program has been an incredible success, empowering NYCHA residents to make a meaningful difference in both their communities and the environment,” said Alex Zablocki, executive director of the Public Housing Community Fund.

NYCHA’s Climate Action Grants are helping public housing residents lead sustainability projects in their neighborhoods, like building community gardens. These projects do more than make New York neighborhoods more beautiful — they build climate resilience and reduce pollution.
