People on the Right tend to dismiss this talk as pearl clutching, oversensitivity to mean tweets, etc, but they misunderstand the country they live in and the Constitution that governs it.

You can say "America is more than an idea, it's a people," and I'd agree. But to be "a people" of 300 million souls with diverse cultures, tongues, and religions, we need unifying institutions and leaders who take the task of unifying seriously. POT
