"A microscopic cage: The image has 2 channels: black, phalloidin (actin) and color, alpha smooth muscle actin. The structure shows an architectural masterpiece of actin-bundle caging the nucleus in activated primary hepatic stellate cells isolated from mice."

💊 Plectin targeting: Our novel plectin inhibitor, plecstatin, effectively blocks HCC progression in vivo. Targeting plectin could open new doors for HCC therapy—much needed, as novel modes of action in the HCC pipeline are highly sought after!

🐭 In vivo HCC models: Knocking out or inhibiting plectin in preclinical liver cancer models significantly reduced tumor growth & metastasis—supporting its crucial role in disease progression.
gregorlab.bsky.social
🔬 In vitro experiments: We found that plectin enhances colony formation, invasion, and mechanosignaling, making tumor cells more aggressive. Disrupting plectin weakens cytoskeletal integrity and reduces the ability of cancer cells to spread.
gregorlab.bsky.social
📊 HCC patient meta-analysis: Our data show that plectin is upregulated in HCC tumors, advanced TNM stages and correlates with poor patient prognosis. This suggests plectin is not just a bystander but a key player in liver cancer progression.
