But within each
A common way to peace,
Embrace self ally, enemy

Until you are what you are,
You’ll never be what you want to be

we fly. This idea came from something my niece said when she saw this vid: “Uncle Greg, he trusts you.” That’s such a wonderful observation.”

And the idea that trust helps us move forward seemed like a good notion to carry into the new year.

Happy New Year. 🪶

Welcome. The sound you hear when I step outside is mostly the rushing waterfall, along with some rain hitting fallen leaves. The waterfall is ~200 ft. below the house, and visible from all but two rooms. The best view is from the bump out seen in the Great Room, at the long window.

The album version (sax, etc.) of this song has earned the most radio play.
Got to see a one-legged sand piper feeding at ocean’s edge, sun setting behind it. This song came from that wonderful moment.
It’s called “And I Stand Still.” Here’s the Spotify link:

Rosalie Elliott, seen here reacting to my YouTube vid, is fellow music lover, musician, and psychotherapist, with a splash of spirituality. So we click. It’s touching and humbling to witness a skilled influencer react in such an insightful and positive way:

before leaving Pecos Benedictine Monastery. This song (and several I wrote at this same time) is about uncertainty. To help with understanding the uncertainty in my life then, here’s this:
In the months prior I had joined the Peace Corps, graduated from college, got bounced from the Peace Corps beca

This is one of the few songs I can’t find my original notes on. Best guess, I wrote it in 1988.

“…We are waiting,
Waiting for the dawn.

The touch of the heart, of the spirit,
Becomes our guiding light,
And through this way in the darkness,
We find a different sort of sight”

For three years, this bridge I built has been well above the creek. Bought the land 35 yrs ago: figured I knew how high the water rose. Mother Nature loves surprises. Twice in the last 8 months the creek has flowed over the bridge. Here’s the first step in repair.

“…As long as enemies engage in war, animosity prevails,
But arms dropped, standing face to face,
We see ourselves in full detail

(Chorus)
Until you are, what you are,
You’ll never be what you want to be…”

(I wrote this in 1979.)

…When to hope,
when to let it die
When to sleep,
when to dry your eye
When to climb,
when to settle down
When to play,
when to dance around
When to see,
when to close your eyes
When to be in darkness,
when to soar, to fly?

I don’t know the answers to
these questions but I know,
That if I open up

Kidnapped by buddies to an open-mic night, Greg performed publicly for the first time in 1978, singing his only tune, “Song for Sailors,” written just before leaving a Benedictine Monastery in 1977. The song was well received, but stayed underground with many othe

When recording this song for my first CD in 1996, I realized I enjoyed the chorus, but the verses, not so much. So I recorded just the chorus. Kinda like this vid.
BTW, the birds decided to join in again.😊

“This moment can not be
Unless we learn to set it free,
And in the healing of your waves,
We catch the seconds,
Release the days

Your waves roll in &
Your waves roll out,
Filling the footsteps
Of my passing doubt,
Your waves roll in &
Your waves roll out,
Surface smooth
To draw what I’m about”

…Put those all together,
It's forever, day by day
To be wise too soon is to wonder,
It's not to know,
And wisdom's not the words you speak,
But it's all the love you show

And patience is a problem
When you're pressed on by the past,
So take yourself right where you are,
Do it soon, you may not
