This feels like tone-policing. "Be angry about the death of people, but just don't be too angry." "Use arguments I don't think are weak." Those statements do nothing to move the conversation forward and push to the status quo.

This is why you have people blocking you.

Like CFCs and asbestos, we can remove technology that is more harmful to humans than it is good. We can't be nuanced about dead children. There is credible evidence LLMs have caused people to take their own lives. That is a hard line.

I respect you, too. But this is not the time for nuanced debate.

And with all of those concerns on top of the environmental impact, forced redistribution of resources (people and capital), as well as the degradation of human communication, I think hard line and not nuanced issue at all. LLMs are a net negative. Full stop.

Agreed on your points above!

I don't think there is nuance in this discussion. The power needed is not worth the human cost. The decaying of human thought is not worth it. The coding by copy-paste machine is not worth it. This is a hard line for me. Yes, there are data analytics applications, but then that's just a computer.

It is useless and it is destroying the planet. Those two things are not mutually exclusive.

It is very good so far!

I still do, Jon. I still do.

welll... i'm basically doing that too with my website fallow for 1.5 years and a distinct lack of star trek podcast episodes to publish.
