Bald cypress (Taxodium distichum): Deciduous tree up to 40 m. Buttressed trunk, “knees”, water-resistant wood. Thrives in wetland paludiculture.

Sumpfzypresse (Taxodium distichum): 40 m hoher Laubbaum aus US-Sümpfen. Characteristisch: Massiv breiter Stammfuß, Kniewurzel, wasserfestes Holz. Für Paludikultur sehr geeignet.

Draining peatlands for farming and palm oil is causing massive carbon loss, soil subsidence, and land degradation.
But paludiculture — farming on wet peat — offers a sustainable way forward.
We must stop digging deeper into this climate trap.
