Deaths that could have been prevented. A suffering that could be stopped immediately if the international community and states took decisive action to uphold and enforce international law, hold perpetrators accountable, and ensure the uncompromising protection of civilians.

Palestinians in the occupied territories continue to face systematic violence, including mistreatment and killings by both Israeli state authorities and settlers, whereas the fate and condition of the remaining hostages is unknown.

Meanwhile, civilians in #Gaza are being massacred before the eyes of the world, with the atrocities broadcast live on everyone’s phones.

Yet #Israel continues to act with impunity, disregarding international law and the Genocide Convention, to which it has been a party since 1949.

The International Court of Justice has stated that there is plausibility in the claim that some of Israel’s actions could fall within the terms of the Genocide Convention and has ordered Israel to prevent such acts.

Leading organizations such as the UN, International Association of Genocide Scholars, B’Tselem, and Physicians for Human Rights Israel, etc. have accused Israel of the crime of genocide.

At the same time, Israel began its onslaught against the Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip, systematically murdering over 67,000 civilians, including children as young as babies, forcibly starving and displacing most of the population, as well as…

Two years ago today, the deadly Hamas-led attacks in southern Israel took the lives of 1,200 #Israeli civilians and other nationals, while 251 people were taken hostage, 20 of whom still remain captive.

The fact that the murder took place within the courtroom is a stark symbol of how weak the rule of law and democracy are in #Albania.

Threats, public denunciations, and even staged protests against courts and the Special Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Structure (SPAK) have sought to undermine judicial independence, erode public trust in state institutions, and jeopardize the safety of legal professionals.

In recent years, there has been a growing climate of intimidation and hostility toward judges and the judiciary, fueled by political attacks and initiated by high-ranking politicians, including Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Kalaja had served as a judge for three decades and passed the vetting process in 2019, despite concerns raised later by the Public Commissioner regarding insufficient asset declarations. Today, when he was killed, he was handling a routine administrative case.

Horrible news from #Tirana! An hour ago, Judge Astrit Kalaja was murdered inside the courtroom of the Tirana Court of Appeals after being shot.

The AI “minister” is promoted as making public tenders more transparent, but as the author points out, it may just make corruption more efficient while disguising responsibility for official decisions.

Here are my two cents on #Albania’s AI minister. Edi Rama claims that Diella will eliminate corruption. I argue, however, that Diella would only make corruption harder and more complicated to detect, especially in a semi-authoritarian context with no rule of law and no independent watchdogs to…

Yet, in the United States today, being antifascist means officially being branded as a “terrorist,” placed in the same category as Al Qaeda or ISIS. But here’s the truth: there is no “anti-antifascist.” There are only fascists and those who resist them. No middle ground.

Looking at this photo today, I can’t help but think of all the brave, idealistic comrades for whom resisting fascism is not an empty slogan but a moral imperative, a lived reality, a way of being—the only way of being actually.

I recall that at one point, in the middle of the rainbow crowd, I lost sight of the friends I had come with. However, I kept finding my way back to them by orienting myself around a huge Antifa flag rising above the march. An image which has stayed with me.

Coming from #Albania where the LGBTQ+ community remains stigmatized, denied recognition by the state, and where organizing Pride is still a risky struggle—marching through the streets of Manhattan alongside people from every corner of the world felt both liberating and profoundly inspiring.

I took this picture in June 2021, during the Pride march in New York City. It was my first time in the US and I still remember the overwhelming excitement of that day. For me, being at Pride in New York carried a significance beyond words.
