Recovering calligrapher, unfinished poet, simulated patient, studying quantum mechanics. COVID changed everything, but I still believe in curiosity+kindness.
Great! I don’t understand why the iHealth test costs the same as the Lucira, which is a ‘molecular’ test like the ones you get at the doctor. Something like the Lucira is 2000x more sensitive (I’m not even exaggerating). It can detect infection before symptoms. So the iHealth pricing is confusing!

It added to my sense of isolation and helplessness, even though it’s what I was hoping would -help-. I still believe in curiosity and creativity but I haven’t found a better use of them yet.

Holy crow! This sounds exactly like me, down to “I used to facilitate this stuff.” I particpated in an online writing circle a year and a half ago (?) that totally should have been my thing and WASN’T (no shade to the facilitator, who was doing what I would have done before All This).

I must have watched it on your recommendation on The Other Site and it was SO SHARP — sometimes uncomfortably so, but in a really smart way. The last episode almost derailed it for me, so I’m glad it was the last episode. :)

I commuted through the Gorge semi regularly for a couple of years. It was always worth it. When you’re ready to go further eastward, I can’t recommend Maryhill Museum or the Stonehenge replica highly enough. Rowena Crest is also a fun drive if you like twisty turns.

I will again thank you bringing this to my attention. The house has been consistently under 500 on the CO2 monitor since I learned this one weird trick!

In so many ways!

Plus one for flat files and draping. My partner built me a flat file system in a space that held a stackable washer/dryer.

For mouth protection, I use Blis or Bioshell. (CPC mouthwash stains my teeth, alas)

I use Covixyl, which you used to be able to buy on Amazon (now you can buy retail or via their website). It contains a little bit of everything: iodine, xylitol, and ELAH. ELAH binds to cells so the virus can’t, and was originally a food preservative and used in mouthwash like CPC.

We replaced our windows this past year and I just realized they work this way! They were not sold to us this way, however. I tried it out last night and yes, I could feel the air move! Thank you! We were already “open morning, close when sunny” but this will be even better.

Very smart! Lava Beds National Monument is near Bend and I’ve heard the High Desert Museum is excellent (if you do museums In These Times).

In February I always fantasize about running off to Bend, where it’s cold but more likely to be sunny. Pre-pandemic I used to stay at the McMenamin’s Old St. Francis School with the most magnificent soaking pool. McMenamin’s has many locations in OR and WA with tons of local art. I miss it dearly.

“Also a frog was singing??” was just the perfect detail. This really is the right time of year to fall in love with Portland. Soak in the springsummer splendor; preserve it in fall; sip it in winter.

A toaster oven and a microwave could make a complete kitchen for me. Once I learned I to make eggs in the microwave and SALMON for heaven’s sake, there was little appeal in standing over a stove. If I need a little browning I transfer it to the toaster oven.

I used to teach Gocco at the IPRC, which was the most adorable Japanese screenprinter. But alas, the company discontinued it. Now I am a recovering calligrapher, unfinished poet, and unrequited astronomer.

It may be listed that way because since COVID it’s been by appointment only. But you can schedule time & services online.

Perfect! I wish you could have been here when the 23 Sandy Gallery was still around: a whole gallery just for book arts, and the owner was happy to talk and offer gloves to touch. It still exists online, though!

I used to teach there two locations and a whole art form ago. :) I donated my letterpress to them last year and it was such a delight to see masking as a requirement (and still looks to be their policy). It’s definitely a gem worth knowing about.

You might appreciate the Independent Publishing Resource Center! A magical land for letterpress and photocopiers alike, with a large zine library AND A MASKING REQUIREMENT.

Higher rate of false positives rather than false negatives, but UGGGHHHHHHH. And why? Why would they make a change like that?
May 14, 2024 at 6:52 AM
Sorry I missed this. The first night the gate was closed and people parked on the sides of the entrance/exit ramps until the park opened the gates. The second night the gates were open much earlier: a lot more people, but a lot less aurora (we didn’t see anything the second night).

We went to Rooster Rock last night and it was fantastic. The road to Vista House was jammed up.
