A lovely afternoon at Watanabe’s Tokushima. I am grateful for their sharing of tradition & history of Aizome, their sukumo indigo farm and processing tour, & an immersive experience with new friends. I dyed a shibori piece I prepared & left with a stunning textile, joyful smile, & stained hands.

This beautiful Taka Ishii Shibori 04 pattern was learned with love from awonoyoh 💕 I decided to use a large piece of linen for this project, which was a fun and worthwhile challenge.

2 different ways of dyeing with fresh Indigo. A: blended Indigo with ice water & then strained. B: Indigo leaves (whole), salt, & minimal ice water. Massaged linen with mixtures for 10 minutes & then oxidized for 5. Method A gave a greenish tone, B gave a blueish tone #naturaldye #Indigo

I learned that in Bojagi, each stitch represents a wish that you sent to someone. I think this is such a beautiful practice, and with every stitch I have the joy of thinking of someone I love and sending them health & happiness💙 #naturaldye

More practice hand sewing Bojagi using fabrics I dyed. This piece has Cochineal, Cochineal Exhaust, Cochineal Iron Overdye, and Cochineal Indigo Overdye. I tried reducing my seams from 1/2” to 1/4”, and decided I prefer 1/2”- switching back tomorrow. 💙 #naturaldye #naturaldyed

I am joyfully learning how to hand sew Bojagi using fabrics I naturally dyed. This piece has Pomegranate, Madder, Madder exhaust, and Cochineal (distilled water used to get more of a deep purple) 💙 #naturaldye #naturaldyed

Reseda Luteola & Rubia Cordifolia on linen. This gave a beautiful strong punchy orange. 1 hour cooked and going back in the pot for a 12 hour steep. #naturaldye
