1. Get the layer you want to be parallax
2. Set a parallax rate (lower number, further away)
3. Get the camera position
4. Adjust the background position based on rate & position
Then rinse and repeat for other layers to create a nice sense of depth

And good to know about wine, honestly GameMaker is one of my only Linux concerns , may have to look into it 👀

Outside of GM it's hard to go wrong with Godot (tho depending on why you're using LTS, it may not be the best pick)
