Awful news, but thank you for taking a stand for kindness and common sense, Robin.

You are right that it should be clearer how to opt out, and that option should be available direct from the homepage. She posted a follow-up with a screenshot of the form she needed to fill out in order to opt out, so there is definitely a opt-out option, just one which is hard to find...

She is already being given the opportunity to opt out. The UK and EU require an opt-in, i.e. no cookies being set unless you actively say yes.

If you want to have the UK/EU cookie banner to allow for easier rejection of tracking cookies, can you use a VPN with a UK or EU location? And/or use Global Privacy Control through your browser?

They do still offer that option in the UK. But US privacy laws require opt-outs not opt-ins. If there has been a change, it has probably been to align with the applicable laws in order to collect the maximum amount of data allowable, instead of applying their UK/EU compliant banner to the US.

I think I did that when I ordered 🙂

My pre-ordered copy from Bookshop.org arrived several days ago - I feel honoured that it arrived early! (Also, I just got an email from them advertising it next to Steve McQueen and Noam Chomsky!)
