there are so many people i respect and look up to as principled comrades, people whose judgment i've come to value, who do important work. people whose existence, whose gender and skin color is itself relentlessly politicized

and not a single one of them is in "movement" mode 24/7

when i say professional approach to movement work i don't mean making your living from it

i mean being able to mentally punch in at the Antifa Factory and then punch out when you're done and not get constantly sucked into drama on those 200-person Signal chats

that shit will just burn you out

also the movement is big enough to have people in it who don't like each other

at some level you gotta have a professional approach to organizing, for lack of a better word

"i don't like this person, i won't talk to them at a party but i'll take a rubber bullet for them on the ground" is healthy

ego is one of the most dangerous forces in organizing circles

we all have it to some degree. i know i have my moments

but people who always have something to prove are most often the ones who get their comrades jammed up. ego makes you make bad decisions

it destroys movements

there's a difference between a deep, abiding rage at injustice and just being angry all the time, at random people

when organizing against state violence it's really a matter of safety to cultivate an inner circle of people who are, for the most part, steady and have what it takes to stay engaged

drops admist long hiatuses.

Rebecca Sugar has also been blunt about the fact that the sabotage was directly related to the show being so queer, especially with the gay wedding in S5. The wedding is ultimately what got them cancelled.

The Steven Universe crew weren't informed that the show was being cancelled until late into the last season's production, so it got hella crunched. Rebecca Sugar had to fight for the last 6 episodes hard.

Cartoon Network sabotaged the show for most of it's run time, with the sporadic "Steven Bombs"

It's basically perfect. Phenomenal plot, not rushed, wraps up beautifully with a bunch of mystery....ugh. Alex Hirsch is a genius.

The Owl House and Steven Universe could have been this way if they hadn't been sabotaged by their respective networks.
