2. “Magic” is the manipulation of the leyline structures that underlie reality. Magical operations are based in symmetry, requiring at minimum two people. As a result, no single individual can "be a mage" alone. Magic is often performed by the equivalent of a troupe of trained dancers.

1. Due to the ubiquity of metal-devouring nanites, metals degrade rapidly and are considered poor building materials. The technology does not yet exist to observe these minuscule constructs, so none are aware of their existence, believing their influence to be simply the innate limitations of metal.
