Long suffering Canuck fan.
You can shit on Hughes all you want, but it was the team (ownership and management) that let him down and failed to build a consistently good team around him.

The reason was that Benning didn't have the cap space as they only had about 16mil on cap space to sign Petterson and Hughes. Reports at the time said they both wanted to sign long term but Canucks didn't have the cap space.

We will likely pick 3rd. considering this draft and the top 2 being wingers there is still a good chance one of McKenna or Stenburg is still available at 3rd. If not there is always Malhotra or Verhoeff. We will have a few drafts near the top to find some great players if we don't this year.
January 30, 2026 at 12:14 AM
I don't know about that they had never even met before like last year, and just a 3rd to move down from 1st, they would get so ripped by the market. No way they don't make the pick, having never picked first. If they don't want him they will just draft who they think is best.

Yah that's fair... I would just be looking for a way to find a 2nd line C.
January 28, 2026 at 12:40 AM
Vancouver has 2 goaltenders signed long term with NMC's. They aren't looking for a goalie.
Should be looking at getting Petterson they take back Laine and newhook for the money to work.
Sure risky but how else are you getting a 2nd line C who might be more.
Will have to give a first + as well.

Check to the head needs to be a minimum of 5 games for a first offense, then double it for each offense after. I don't think Rust is a dirty player but we have to take these hits out of the game. If he knows he's getting 10 games next time he makes sure to take a route through the body and low.

That's too bad, my kids all went to a school of choice for elementary school (arts focused) they had all learned the breathing techniques by grade 3. Maybe due to having choir since they do breathing exercises, but knew to use it to calm down and refocus.
January 27, 2026 at 5:41 PM
I'm pretty sure it is taught in elementary school these days, all my kids seemed to have been taught it... Though we also reinforced it at home, having done calming breathing exercises ourselves for many years.
January 27, 2026 at 5:29 PM
I'd take a top 2 pick in a heartbeat, at least we would have won the 2nd pick and guaranteed one of Stenburg or McKenna
January 16, 2026 at 5:14 AM
As fans we should try to be patient. This team has no elite talent, no coach will fix that. Yes we could get a bit more entertainment but still L's. It's ok this season and next 2 we will be one of the worst. Accept the reality of a truly bad team, and hope that the Canucks nail their draft picks
January 16, 2026 at 5:11 AM
Not much worth keeping, kinda blown up with miller and Hughes gone. Don't have to trade everyone I don't want that but probably still need to trade 2-3 of Debrusk, Garland, Petey, Hronek, Marcus, Boeser, Demko, Lakinen. Plus the ufa's. Say over the next year or 2. Can always sign some cheap vets.
January 16, 2026 at 5:05 AM
Oh yes well earned bad years due to thoughtless impatient ownership and management. No elite players means it will be rough until we find them in the draft. Probably minimum 3 more painful seasons after this one.
January 16, 2026 at 12:38 AM
I think you have to accept he doesn't fit the timeline. He will be in his 30s even in an optimistic timeline of us getting back to the playoffs, though he would help you reach the cap floor. Think how he might look if he loses even more speed just as we start getting better, he likely holds us back.
January 16, 2026 at 12:36 AM
He's good for the tank and likely has zero trade value. Hold him then trade him when he has a bounce back season, hopefully next year or year after. If he doesn't bounce back it won't hurt you probably 4 seasons away from being mid let alone good.
January 16, 2026 at 12:19 AM
JT has been pretty mid this season, and man I don't know what happened to Petey but he's pretty mid too and for a lot longer. Seems we were destined to be bad, unless they both magically rediscovered their form. Those 2 stopping being elite is to hard to recover from.
January 15, 2026 at 3:55 AM
I am unsure either way. with Hughes gone is clearly a bot 5 team in talent. Rough start for Foote but seemed to turn things around for a bit, now without Hughes they are awful. I don't think a great coach is getting this team to win games. So it's ok for this season.
January 11, 2026 at 5:08 AM
Don't think quite that bad and could get better if they actually make rebuilding moves. Keenan years were worse and probably depths of the willy era man those days were bleak too
January 11, 2026 at 4:54 AM
Market has handled the team having multiple bad seasons before, it would help if messaging from management would change, instead of sounding very similar to the Benning years.
January 11, 2026 at 4:44 AM
So we have less draft picks as per tradition
January 11, 2026 at 1:49 AM
I think you are under the false impression that the Canucks have been significantly better than those teams. They have been awful on home ice last 2 seasons, fans still coming. You might not support a rebuild but the majority in the market would.
January 10, 2026 at 9:46 PM
you could get unlucky like Montreal who after making a cup run rebuilt for only 3 years of missing the playoffs and did not get a celebrini. made playoffs the next season and look pretty good for making it this year. Yep Canucks fans would definitely want our last 7 seasons over that.
January 10, 2026 at 9:39 PM
Also you are stuck on this imaginary 7 plus year number of being bad which only happens with horrible rebuilds or being unlucky. But after 3 or 4 years usually the teams rebuilding results in a team more competitive than Canucks have been. Get a stud also get sellouts see SJ and Chicago.
January 10, 2026 at 7:15 PM
I don't believe that at all. Fans in Montreal were fine with it. You lay out a plan fans will show up especially with young exciting players to see. After being bad for the last 10 years with still mostly full buildings that excuse seems very hollow. Also Edmonton did support one get real.
