That makes sense to me. Keeping domesticated horses out all night during winter doesn't seem a good thing to do but I guess this barn has success with that program.
When I worked at a farm in the Washington state, field horses did just that. They were always in the field. But beefed up for winter.

Do you keep him in or out at night. Horses at my friend's barn keep all horses out at night. They have blankets and hay rolls & graze. They are brought in during the day.
