Or the designer (Matthew Carter, who does know what he is doing, your computer has some of his typefaces installed by default) is balancing between the letter combination rarity & appearance & ease of use.

I’m not sure if it’s that either, many fonts with very round 0s have very narrow 1s (like in 2001 film title & posters, though the title might use the letter O).
Usually people, even if they are designers, take things for granted and don’t realize (or bother) they can be modified to look better.

I’ve thought of typography often when reading your menswear threads.
Smililarly, it’s kind of invisible unless you know something about it, might require specialized tools to get most out if it and still looks better when done well, even for a layperson.

It would look less bad if the text was higher, with the serifs on the 1.
But even better without the serifs & similar spacing as the 00.
Numbers are a bit special case, often you’d want them to take equal horizontal space to make comparisons easier. Some fonts have more than one set of numbers.

The kerning is in the font itself but the software might not always support using it, or is not using it as default.

I was thinking of a music video where the budget would run out during the song, so it would start super swag with fancy cars etc. but at the end it would be shot with a cheap phone on a bus.

When I get infinite money I’ll have a series of Bond short films made, all directors can do whatever they want. Would be nice to see a Kaurismäki or an Anderson (Wes and/or PT) version. Or Reichardt or Rohrwacher.
