Fascinated and often disappointed by how people make decisions, behavioral economics, data, scientific method, tech skeptic, history, reader of indictments, lover of football played with feet
@Jennycohn.bsky.social has the best explanation I’ve seen. I doubt that Trump is really involved (he’s too oriented towards immediate gratification) but someone in his admin is connected to Stone and the techbros.

Roger Stone on 1/24/25: “A well-timed pardon of former [Honduran] President Hernandez…cld be the final death blow to Castro w/ national elections set to take place later this year. Castro’s regime cld be upended” in a major “victory for…Próspera” (the network state project backed by Peter Thiel) 1/
How President Trump Can Crush Socialism and Save a Freedom City in Honduras
In the impoverished nation of Honduras, there are geopolitical developments afoot that have major implications for U.S. policy and the future of freedom throughout the world.

Jenny Cohn lays out a plausible argument that Andreesen and Theil are behind Trump’s pardoning of the convicted Honduran drug running ex-president. They want to preserve their investment in an economic free zone so they can play their sovereign tech nation fantasy. These clowns have too much power!

A bit different take but we arrive to the same place: No country’s major party has been permitted to skirt shame and accountability due to 1/3 of the population being abjectly ignorant, another 1/3 not paying attention and a media that continues to treat them as honest brokers.

Thank you for researching and relentlessly sharing this. Everyone is focusing on the hypocrisy of it but not considering the real rationale that you reveal. Trump is incapable of thinking so far ahead. That Theil and Andreesen are behind it and just protecting their investments is insidious.

I think it’s slightly different. The sister was right when she said they were in a cult. They suffer from fear of the unknown - big cities, immigrants, etc They’ve outsourced their understanding of the world to a megalomaniac who has easy solutions for the complicated things that make them scared.

I know many fans traveling from Europe are praying 1st) their team qualifies 2) their team’s group matches are in Canada or Mexico. For some reason, many don’t want to travel to the US. Don’t know why.

The question is, how many of his supporters are like these fine citizens?

On “The Necessary Conversation” podcast, Chad’s Trump supporter parents tell him the military should follow Trump’s illegal orders and kill everyone in LA if Trump commanded it — even with him and his sister in the city😳

The Economist must stop treating him and his administration as honest brokers. They flit from transaction to transaction, from promise to promise, threat to threat.

Did you investigate the claims that Witkoff is negotiating with Russia on how to divide up Europe?

Some % of Trump appointees must eventually realize they’re incapable of 1) managing the responsibilities involved with their function 2) evaluating success/failure, etc

I’m convinced the goal is to create a kakistocracy so that people abandon the idea of govt can actually help its citizens

And Dukakis was disqualified because he was photographed with his helmeted head sticking out of a tank. And yet candidate Trump is caught on tape bragging about his ability to commit sexual assault on strangers.

The NYT occupies a hub in our information environment. Its editors choices for headlines and framing have disproportionate impact.

Our analysis:

A🧵
This is profoundly irresponsible by AGSulzberger’s NYT, @by-cjewett.bsky.social +eds.

The normalization, “view-from-nowhere”, “born-yesterday”, stenography, “both-sides”, irresponsible headline are disgraceful.
THE story is the CDC&FDA are being destroyed by antiscience & Americans will die.

Back in the lead up to the election, a few old college buddies (no longer) were explaining their Trump support. When I predicted to them that Trump’s mass deportations would inevitably round up legal residents and citizens, they were OK with it. I was shocked.

This video is way worse.

Even worse. Many of our allies were subdued in their criticism of the US involvement in Vietnam even if their populations were protesting. The outrage for this war is already leading to explicit rebukes from our allies’ leaders.

Maybe the lead additives in gas and paint finally flushed themselves out of the environment.

As Trump supporters gradually peel away, this is the bottom of the barrel that remains. What % of his 70m voters are as psychotic as these two?
