I'll still be updating the spreadsheet no matter what happens because i'm consistent on one thing.
Being a nerd.

And heres the console ranking!
Steam appeared the most, followed by Switch Physical, then Platstation 4 Physical.
Switch having the most points, Steam/PS4/PSN having the second most then PS5 in third.

Also, for one last time
Here's the year end spreadsheet for my fellow NERDS
The top 80 series to appear.
Mario appeared the most, Fire Emblem and Resident Evil tied for second and Donkey Kong in third.
Mario has the most points at 14, Donkey Kong in second with 9, and Persona in 3rd with 7

I'm going to keep writing about video games. But probably privately for a bit. Then eventually I want to make the next step and put it out there somewhere. A blog a website or something. To have more control (and actual ways to edit).
This has been fun a lot of fun. But I think it's time to evolve.

That's kind of whats weird about the game thread, and why, I'm thinking of retiring it.
I've loved doing. I really have. But this social media tied thread feels more limiting than anything now. I want to break free of it.

I also did things I usually don't like play massive online hero shooters. This was my lowest number to date. Making a lot of the categories have games wining by default or only coming ahead of 1 other game.
2020 Gunnar would be laughing at me.
But he was also horribly depressed I'm actually doing ok

Reflections:
Well, bit of an odd year if you couldn't tell. This felt like the first year my priorities with gaming shifted. This felt like a side quest year. I was replaying games a lot, I did a huge replay dive on Guitar Hero and (the most side quest activity of all) focused on a youtube channel.
January 1, 2026 at 4:56 AM
And here's a point break down for the year.
No secret winners like previous years. The game of the year walked away with the most points.
January 1, 2026 at 4:53 AM
And finally
What we've all been waiting for
The Top 3 of the Year
In 3rd was Fire Emblem Path of Radiance
In 2nd was Marvel Rivals
And, shocking no one, my favorite game I played in 2025 was Octopath Traveler II.

Here are all the systems that had entries last year but didn't this year.
This actually marks the first year I did not finish a single PS4 game in a year.
This also marks the first year without a Resident Evil or a Kirby game appearing which were the last series to appear in every year.
January 1, 2026 at 4:50 AM
Wanted to also quickly add that I replayed a lot of games this year.
4 on PS2 (All Guitar Hero)
1 on 360 (Also Guitar Hero)
1 on Wii (GH)
1 on DS (see above)
1 on Wii U
1 on NES
1 on PS1
Also a lot in previous categories. I was just in a replay mood this year idk.
January 1, 2026 at 4:49 AM
And in maybe the biggest shock
I finished more games on Xbox 360 than I did PS5.
In fairness, it was just to continue my nostalgia filled dive into Guitar Hero and Rock Band.
But it paints a picture dosen't it.
Loved Beatles, Liked RB, was overall fine with Van Halen.
January 1, 2026 at 4:47 AM
Also wanted to put it out there I did try overwatch 2 and got about 5 or so hours on it. I like it but I've ended up liking Rivals more.
I did consider including Overwatch 2 on this list but I feel like with my little playtime it wouldn't be fair.
Maybe next year I'll have more definitive thoughts.
January 1, 2026 at 4:44 AM
Also, oh my fucking god want an explanation on why I finished so few PS5 games.
BECAUSE WHENEVER I TURNED ON MY PS5 I JUST WNTED TO PLAY RIVALS.
No online game has had me in a fucking choke hold like this thing. I've become a whale of skins and battle passes and I LOVE it.
SOMEBODY HELP ME.
January 1, 2026 at 4:42 AM
To those curious the games I started but did not finish were
Final Fantasy Tactics
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
and
to my shame
Metaphor Refantzio.
I'm sorry I'll turn my Atlas fan badge in.
January 1, 2026 at 4:41 AM
Well
this is sad
2 PS5 games. I only finished 2 PS5 games in 2025. And not for lack of trying I started 3 different games and I didn't finish any of them.
So we got the Namco duology over here.
Loved Once Upon, great game love that Katamari is back.
Also that Pac is back with a great remake.
January 1, 2026 at 4:40 AM
Hey first NES game since 2023
and man fuck this game XD
I did not like this game at allllllll.
Not for me no thank you.
January 1, 2026 at 4:38 AM
Speaking of Backlog clears, can you believe in the 6 years I've been doing this I never once finish a gamecube game on actual hardware.
All gamecube games were rereleases on other consoles. But I got the silver cube out and I finally beat PoR and I adored it.
Easily a top tier FE for me now.
January 1, 2026 at 4:38 AM
Little weird thinking that Switch 1 games are now going to be backlog clears now instead of new games to catch up on. Hell it's already happened Octopath 2 was basically a backlog clear.
January 1, 2026 at 4:36 AM
and don't forget Switch 1!
Honestly low key forgot Zelda was technically this year.
And of course, it's the spot the main character game. Octopath Traveler 2 is a masterpiece i loved every millisecond of it and it easily EASILY won top spot here.
January 1, 2026 at 4:35 AM
If you were wondering where Mario Kart was, it's in the digital category!
And it was a lot of fun.
Now if I had played it on a physical kart (ha) it would've come in 3rd kicking Date out of the top 3.
But that bundle was the one good deal nintendo had this year and I took it and haven't looked back.
