So yesterday me and The Lads (13 & 15) potted along to the Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington to the museum’s first model show. Purchased were made…tanks: Panther and T34, and work building them started when we got home…

Off to Elvington shortly with The Lads to the YAM model show. The York modellers are set up ready (and have been since early this morning)

We had an hour of do on the archery field this morning and my lovely lady was on fire: not only every arrow in the gold, every one’s within the 10 ring within the gold!

And how do I paint my Epic scale figures? Just like painting any other scale: very slowly!

Job done, straight out of the box, using glue and paint from the box.
An impulse buy from Lidl (food store) and I think it’s the first Spitfire I’ve built since the Frog MkXIV and Flying Bomb was first issued. I might do a bit of extra fettlin’ over the next couple of days.

It’s transfer time!

So, the holiday build is not coming on too badly. The carpet monster has been tamed (and parts recovered), paints are a frustration (but a better finish than I expected…with perseverance) and the fit was tight with some bits. The only “extra” is a roll of decorators masking tape to mask the canopy.

So, we’re on holiday. I have a few modelling bits with me. We’re Lidl and guess what jumped into the shopping trolley?

So, during Lockdown The Lads (Grandsons) and did Zoom modelling sessions. This one was with DAS modelling clay and a wooden mannequin. Today, young Benj found my effort and decided to paint it. The figure is intended to be a Gerry Anderson villain.

Oh yes. All of this is true. Unfortunately ours is no longer with us.

I'll be listening to this.
The photo of N.1 Sqn in July 2018 provided the inspiration for this little project:
(And I really need to get around to building more SE.5as and sculpting more figures to populate the scene...)

Very pleased with Mr Postie’s delivery today…especially as I had forgotten they had been ordered.

Luckily, I have with me the basic set of Scalecolor Artists Acrylics: white, black, red, blue, yellow and a brown. Plus a few brushes. So I’ll be doing old school painting - mixing my colours!

So whilst away on jollies I planned to do some painting having brought the AK Playmarker painting pens with me to try. Disappointed! I think the coverage is poor (although one dry it doesn’t look too bad) and it’s difficult to control the flow of paint to the pen tip.

Away for a few days on jollies and an opportunity for a bit of modelling. I’m not keen on standard bearers carry around telegraph poles, so first job is to replace flag staffs with new, ever so slightly longer, brass ones…

But they can restore an element of fun to modelling!
Not so long ago I made the original Airfix Gladiator (painted as a Sea Gladiator). The only concession to updating it was to use an engine, cowling and prop from an Airfix Blenheim as an "alternative" (also the original kit).

Lovely morning for it this morning…Mrs.N had every arrow in the gold (I had the odd errant arrow - as below)

And the output is probably better than I was capable of producing at their age:

I had to dig my old Funken’s out the last time The Lads* were over as they were painting some Napoleonics.
* The Lads = Grandsons…

Happen to be in Leeds at a conference (for work that pays the mortgage) and you can’t go the The Armouries without checking on the Sibthorne Waterloo diorama.

We’re on fire this morning…and a lovely morning for it!
