Something nerdy and pleasant to interrupt the morning doomscroll. #HobbitDay
Today is #HobbitDay because both Bilbo and Frodo Baggins were born on September 22nd. Normally we'd shire a hobbit pun or two but it might just feel like a tolkien gesture and we don't want to embarrass our elves. Anyway come and boromir #Tolkien books.

Well worth a repost. Note he backed the rampant vote suppression in North Carolina. Has to make sure he can keep day trading while on the taxpayer clock.
Sen. Warren Daniel (R–NC, District 46) was caught trading stocks right on the Senate floor.

Didn’t even wait for a break. Playing the market on the taxpayers’ time…pure abuse of power.

I love this title of an actual Princeton peer-reviewed study. A good read, following a frustrating two weeks at work where OpenAI models incorrectly performed 57% of the calculations I gave them. arxiv.org/pdf/2507.07484 #MachineBullshit

I am so angry about this. My friend's mom, born in DC, now 86 yo, has been braving the heat every day to protest, just like she and many others of her generation did all through the 60s and 70s...way before this rich kid from Santa Monica was even born. #DCStatehood
Stephen Miller: "All these demonstrators that you've seen out here in recent days, all these elderly white hippies, they're not part of the city and never have been ... we're gonna ignore these stupid white hippies that all need to go home and take a nap because they're all over 90 years old."

The military occupation is happening now. DC was my home for a decade, a thriving and beloved city commonly used as a pawn for political maneuvering. (I recall a Senate Committee raiding our elementary education budget to gold-leaf some federal building.) Everyone should be protesting this.
Ok, you start! Please show up more fully and more significantly for the 700,000 people in DC now under an unjust, unnecessary, and immoral federal police & military occupation. #DCStatehood
As we face cruelty, corruption, and chaos, may we fight. Fight hard. And fight even harder. But let us not lose ourselves. In fact, let’s find ways to show up more fully and more significantly for others.

Excellent thread on updates of what is happening in courtrooms. ICE is now refusing to identify themselves, interrupting court proceedings, and arresting anyone who protests or even tries to observe.
Update: reports today that multiple legal observers were arrested today in New York at two separate immigration courts, for allegedly “obstructing” ICE.

Not only that, apparently some immigration courts are barring the public from attending hearings.

This mess is escalating fast.
Immigration court arrests continued across the nation yesterday (and are likely ongoing today).

Yesterday, in NYC, 30 ICE officers swarmed the immigration court, holding lists of names of people to arrest. All were dutifully attending their immigration hearings and many had pending asylum claims.

The dangerous facet of more and more of these cases every day is normalization. We have to react. Too many people I know are shutting out politics. We can't.
MUST WATCH: ICE kidnapped a disabled American citizen.

Her name is Alma Bowman. Born in the Philippines while her dad served in the U.S. Navy.

She’s lived here 48 years.
They crashed her wheelchair, denied meds, cut her off from her lawyer—and jailed her.
