A giant, grotesque frog demon
Of all the benefits of elections, one of the greatest might be that they provide a path for ambitious politicians to advance without violence or palace intrigue. Anyone who is anyone in the GOP is going to want their turn, which means not suffering an attempt at a third trump run

They regulate the state power company, georgia power, which has done some insane rate hikes over the past few years. Before tongiht is was all GOP

Absolutely nobody in charge of anything wants to be the person who got a real bomb threat and did nothing

I would caution against reading too much into GA in particular b/c ATL has municipal elections while the state does not. There is also a lot of bipartisan outrage against Ga Power (which the statewide election is about) due to spiking power costs

these are all independent municipalities

So will there be tariffs or no?

Comparing congress to the duma seems like tempting fate given how all that ended up for the tsar and his advisors

Article in the AJC yesterday showed Georgia premiums up on the order of 400% for a couple in their 60s making 85k. From 600/m to over 2500/m for a silver plan. Insane

Im not a marxist to be clear, but i do think being a celebrity is a kind of ownership of self distinct from having a body and using it to do work

SnP down 6%. Sure seems like we’re gonna hit a circuit breaker.

Not trying to say you are wrong to worry btw, just trying to offer some hope. Things are rough out here
April 5, 2025 at 3:02 AM
That is definitely a possibility, but not inevitable. Things were resl bleak at first, but friction is growing

If history gives us one solace, its that any predictions about an inevitable future are almost always wrong. We don’t know what is going to happen, which is a blessing and a curse

The federal gov is still broadly made up of ordinary people trying to do their job. The trump toadies are a conquering force trying to force an unnatural, unwanted mode of conduct. They can’t control everything, even if they pretend to

I work in government, literally everyone hates whats happening
April 5, 2025 at 2:36 AM
Federal workers broadly are institutionalists who follow court orders unless the admin forces them not to. trump can’t go to jail or be fined, but they can. Thats why every grant isn’t canceled atm

It’s hard to steer a ship as big as the federal gov, especially when you’re going against the current

It’s almost beautiful

Its the logical endpoint of sola fide. Martin Luther is an underrated historical villain for that alone tbh

Knowing how to use R, GIS, extremely basic stats, and just generally not being afraid of numbers put me ahead of like 90% of my undergrad poli sci cohort. Ive had classes where people struggle to work with basic aspects of *excel*
