Even if by some magic the tariff tax burden was paid by the importers prices would still go up. If goods could be manufactured domestically at a lower cost, they would be already. How could prices not go up?

His speech was giant “f*ck you” to every historical ally of the United States. Even if he feels this way, what is the upside of saying it directly to those people in Switzerland? What good does it accomplish for the US and for Trump personally? Since that’s all he cares about.

On the surface this seems obvious, but the economy is not a zero sum game. If the bottom 80% is still consuming at a rate equal to or, hopefully, better than the inflation rate, then things are going well for them too.
That said, I’m 100% in support of UBI and have been for about a decade.

I once met a Chinese PHD student, in California, and mentioned I was from Vermont. I explained it’s in New England near the Atlantic Ocean on the east coast of the US. I was shocked to learn he wasn’t familiar with where the Atlantic Ocean was.

I don’t follow the logic. A boat can’t outrun a plane no matter the color. Even if the argument was they could dispose of evidence if they saw it early enough, they were blowing the ship up anyway. Make it make sense!
