It's made me grateful for all these decades of careful ornithology over in Cornell...

the life of an animator rarely if ever comes with the prestige or recognition of live action cinema. there is no glitz, no glamour. its just long long hours with inks, cels, paper, light tables, and a million minute decisions. in this way it shares a lot with game dev

Social media itself is a place where a lot of people have poured out their rage for the benefit of platforms and little to no benefit to themselves.

Americans have also realized this and have taken to spending more time doing less-performative activism that does, indeed, have an effect.

Norway's strong social welfare state and democratic protections come from relative homogeneity and concerted, left-wing union activism over decades.

The US is a large, heterogenous country whose leaders have done *everything they can* to break unions' power and erect a carceral state. Challenging.

Solidarity! In retrospect, this really does make the original 3 shine even more brightly

But anyways:

Star Wars *may* be this multi-billion-dollar IP largely catalyzed not only by John Williams' "this is way too good for this movie" score, but also *specifically* by Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher's IRL off-screen fling. Did wonders for the original trilogy.

We considered adding shows to the mix, but there are like 136 episodes of Clone Wars, etc. It would've been too much filler for the protein.

YEAH WE KNOW

We did consider it though.

One thing that happens when you do this is (a) Star Wars: A New Hope suddenly becomes dripping with lore, as every single line & scene has been expanded, riffed upon, and explained, and (b) the movie becomes incredibly funny & alive, all the Real Chemistry between the actors firing on all cylinders.

Kat and I were never able to bring ourselves to watch Rise of Skywalker. We watched 30 minutes of it and hated it so much that we had to turn it off. Maybe with the giant lore buildup that this particular viewing cycle affords, we might be able to push through the anger anyway.

"Most reviewers labeled them as a funk or jazz-fusion band, though it might be more accurate to describe them as early progenitors of go-go, a local subgenre of funk still popular in the District."

The 25-year run of Knutpunkt books is entirely free and available as PDF if you're interested in "where we've come from, where we've been."

Something like Odysseus rests on decades of larp experience and discussion, a refinement of the form after years of iteration.

Yeah -- I absolutely agree, and also think that every change starts with small steps.

Remember that not only is another world possible, it is also *necessary*.

We must imagine beyond this quarter's earnings report or that elite network's personal wealth & power grab.

We have it in ourselves as human beings to take care of each other.

"Shocking" others into compliance ain't it.

The reason why we don't get UBI or universal health insurance or free childcare or *any* social amenities that an advanced society *can* afford is that neoliberalism's *whole being* revolves around the disenfranchisement of workers. Active indifference to humanity; a place where fascism festers.

"We are SO shocked when this [Western nation] or [liberal institution] tolerates this [horrid thing]."

Did you know that bribes & threats not *only* produce desired political behaviors, but they also produce a whole *group identity* of passive acceptance and complicity?
