On a seriously good run of films this past week

Le Trou (1960) 🇫🇷 Dir: Jacques Becker. Just watched this absolute masterpiece on the director’s Studiocanal boxset. A near-perfect film #filmsky

Häxan (1922) 🇸🇪 Dir: Benjamin Christensen. Finally got around to watching the @filmsradiance.bsky.social disc, a unique and extraordinary film that remains relevant and accessible to modern audiences thanks to a slick restoration, Matty Bye’s score and one of the best screen devils ever #filmsky

Bob really does hate cats. RIP my Bagpuss DVD

#spotifywrapped Had a blitz on classic Sabbath in the summer and they end up being my most listened to artist of the year

Dogra Magra (1988) 🇯🇵 Dir: Toshio Matsumoto. With the (to my eye more pleasing) reversible cover on display, another banger from Radiance Films. A twisted psychological horror with plenty of surrealism. Bob the beaglier was pretty non-plussed but I loved it

Last watch, The Emigrants (1971) 🇸🇪 Dir: Jan Troell. Realistically gritty account of a Swedish family’s emigration to the US in the mid-19th c. Feels incredibly modern for a film, with Von Sydow & Ullman both on top form. The Criterion disc also contains the sequel which I’ll get to next week 9/10

Sci-fi comedies never get a fair shot. Both of these were great
