It is not how things are in the world that is mystical, but that it exists.

A profoundly moving—and at times touchingly funny—but very beautiful portrait of Julian’s mum who has Alzheimer’s (& no or very little memory) by @julianlass.com just broadcast on Radio 4 www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...

Flower No.5, 1998, 5x4 inch polaroid made as a poetic elegy for JG Ballard’s The Garden of Time. I originally showed it placed next to/opposite my portraits of houses exhibited Kettle’s Yard and EAST 1999. The photographer—woodworker—storyteller Graham Smith made the frame.

I counted 77 blooms on the early daffodils I planted two years ago. They are multiplying very slowly. At the water’s edge the sea kale is sprouting. The plants have small leaves of two or three inches; they are a deep purple.

Visiting Kettle’s Yard last week after a far too long absence to see the Li Yuan-Chia show, I was reminded how very beautiful—and beautifully poignant St Peter’s church is—which I remember Michael Harrison showing me 25 years ago. Jim Ede left such a legacy.
