About 200 people are rallying in downtown Seattle to denounce U.S. military strikes on Venezuela and the kidnapping of its president Nicolás Maduro. The attacks occurred overnight and were authorized by U.S. President Donald Trump. Organizers called for a new anti-war movement to oppose the attacks.

Katie Wilson has officially taken the oath of office. In her speech, she pledged to fight for Seattle’s artists, activists and ordinary people who make it run, and liberate residents’ time from the grind of capitalism, saying the city should “honor what you're doing when you’re not making money.”

Good news tonight: Muhammad Zahid Chaudhry, the disabled U.S. veteran who has been detained by ICE since August, was released today from the NWDC in Tacoma. Chaudhry is a prominent anti-war activist and husband of former congressional candidate Melissa Chaudhry. His immigration case remains active.

The Homeless Remembrance Project has been holding monthly and yearly vigils for more than two decades. They will be meeting at Victor Steinbrueck Park near Pike Place Market. Note that the numbers in the flyer aren't updated with November data.

TONIGHT: Coinciding with the winter solstice at 4:21PM, volunteers with SHARE/WHEEL will hold a vigil for the 245 homeless people who died in the Seattle area this year. Since 2022, the group has honored more than 1,100 people who passed away while unhoused or in public due to violence.

The jail's problems are not new. For decades, the ACLU of Washington and other plaintiffs have been struggling to ensure adequate access to behavioral health care and other necessities in the King County Correctional Facility. Advocates say that since 2020, conditions have only further deteriorated.
