To celebrate scoring tickets for Pearl Jam today (and since dog epitaphs seem to do well here), here's a verse for the 'Pearl of Gaul': Margarita, who was 'taught to run freely through forests and rough hills.' Bonus points for the not-so-subtle nod to Vergil in the first line - 'Gallia me genuit.'

Kicking things off with one of my favorite Latin epitaphs: in memoriam of the dog Patrice, who "welcomed his tired master with wagging tail" and gave him "a thousand kisses". Even if emotion is socially constructed (is it?), there's something timeless in reading about the love between human and dog.
