So… um… refreshing (?) when children’s books keep it real. So far in this 1991 bio of Genghis Khan, there’s been soldiers drinking their horses’ blood, and death by poison, stockade, and now beating and suffocation. Maybe not the best bedtime story, but at least my kid is learning about real life.

As a kid living in Atlanta in the 80s, I knew by heart the lyrics of every song on Wild Planet and Whammy! This is the first time I’m actually seeing the B-52s live.

It’s not just that it obscures the threat, but it’s an unfaithful, inaccurate reading. The imagery was of a post-coup execution by firing squad of an overthrown regime.
