Aw yeah it's holiday time. I love this topper my husband made that has our names + pets on it.

Bedroom successfully oranged.

LinkedIn post by Haley Saunders I was fired for taking care of my mom with stage 4 cancer. Earlier this week, after 3 years as a Software Engineer at Target, I was fired. Not for performance. Not for lack of effort. But because I refused to abandon my mom. In December 2023, my mom was diagnosed with stage four cancer - an aggressive variant. I moved to Pittsburgh, PA to be her full-time caretaker (with my boss's approval) while continuing to work remotely since remote work was the expectation when I was hired. I learned three weeks ago that return-to-office was required in Minnesota beginning September 2nd, 2025. For over a year, I asked Target to make my remote arrangement official. Denied. Appealed again when the return-to-office mandate was announced. Denied. Appealed to the VP of Engineering. Denied. Appealed to the COO. Ignored. Here's the part I struggle to accept: * Half of my team, including my boss, works fully remote. * Only 4 of us out of 9 were required to return to the office. * Even in-office, we still spend all day on Zoom. So on September 2, I was fired - not for performance reasons, but for choosing to care for my mom. Remote work gave me the chance to balance both my career and being there for the most important person in my life. Taking that away feels cruel and unnecessary. I share this not out of bitterness but because I know I'm not the only one. So many people are being told to choose between caregiving and outdated "butts in seats" policies. To other companies: if you want to attract and keep talent, start by treating workers like humans. And to anyone hiring: I'm ready for my next role, one where empathy and kindness are core values. If you know of opportunities for remote or Pittsburgh based engineering or IT roles, I'd be grateful for any leads. Caregiving is essential. Everyone will need a caregiver in the future. I'm proud I prioritized being there for my mom.

My WeightedWonder dragon arrived today! I love him so much. I'm considering naming him Themberchaud Jr. He might also be a Blazey Jr after my big orange cat.
