This is a good example of why the 575 rule can be flexible for English haiku.
English syllables can range from very short to fairly long with multiple mouth movements to annunciate the word. For example "thoughts" vs "of"
For me it's the overall rhythm that counts not the counting syllables.

that is a much debated point but generally yes you are right. I think because English is totally different to Japanese other haiku rules are more important. but I always make the middle line the longest.
