They're mostly classic paintings that are old enough to be in the public domain. You can look up the catalogues of some art galleries on Wikimedia to find a lot of them easily.

Managed to find enough time between everything to make another 10 Piranesi. pieces. This batch is quite an extreme one, featuring the darkest, silliest, most intense and even sentimental pieces in the entire catalogue so far.

Preorders for ”Tennis, Everyone?” vinyl and cassette are now up. As always, both are fairly small batches, so if you want one, you should grab one sooner than later!

Also just an unexpectedly really pretty game.

Really enjoyed Caput Mortum. Short, punchy Amnesia/Penumbra style horror puzzler. Neat alchemy-based plot and novel mechanics that don't overstay their welcome. The "pre-standardization" style control scheme took a bit of getting used to, meaning it works as intended.

Had a big group of them stay over for a couple nights in the spring, but they moved on afterwards.

I haven't yet listened to Geese, but considering they just dropped one of the greatest album covers of all time, I feel I ought to.

If you haven't heard it yet, the full album is free on Bandcamp and Youtube, with an alternate public domain sample version on streaming platforms.

It's the backbone of the entire track and the way it gradually builds up to its payoff is so satisfying

Can't stop thinking about this fucked up groove

Had a lot of fun with Ramon & Jessica's Roses Are Blue. Group a capella in the style of minimalist classical but with such a saccharine sense of childlike glee that it's hard to not get swept up in it (if you don't find it really annoying).

The Pawnbroker (1964) maybe? I haven't seen it, but it's also directed by Sidney Lumet, the director of 12 Angry Men.

It's a good meme but 12 is absolutely not unbothered. He's a total flake, he chooses his position based on just not wanting to rock the boat. A true version of this meme would either use 4 because he's very calm, reasonable and focuses entirely on facts, or 8 for being the general voice of reason.

Go watch the top 3 and find out. They're all very different but very engaging.

Honorable mention to The Hateful Eight (2015), which IS great, and IS just people in a room, but they do way too much more than just talk to fit into the list in my eyes.

If there's any other great ones I've missed, let me know. I love these.

Personal ranking of movies that are just people in a room talking:

1. 12 Angry Men (1957)
2. The Man From Earth (2007)
3. The Sunset Limited (2011)
4. My Dinner With Andre (1981)
5. Conspiracy (2001)
6. The Exterminating Angel (1962)
7. Yannick (2023)

(I liked all of them)

Absolutely buckwild that the Coen brothers just Had It from the start. While watching their debut, Blood Simple, I was kept on the edge of my seat thinking ”damn, they picked an amazing screenplay” only to get to credits and find out they also wrote it. Incredible thriller!

Watched Tragedy of Man (2011), absolute monolith of an animated film. Adam, Eve and Lucifer wax philosophical about the nature of man with each time period animated in an appropriate style, produced over the course of 23 years. Exhausting, sometimes sublime, always impressive.

Yeah, though on the other hand, if I'd looped more I probably would have stopped playing. With how little time I have for playing games nowadays, I just don't have the patience for permadeath games making me repeat things I've already done.

Although the conclusion(s) of the story didn't really satisfy me, the actual picking apart and decoding of it was very fun, and clearly a lot of care went into its implementation. I even played a lot of the endless mode for the extra story, which I very rarely do in other games.

Played through Returnal on a whim and had a very good time. I don't really like rogueli(k/t)es, but this kept me engaged thanks to a very intriguing story and good combat (also since I played KB&M, I only died twice at the very start, so the permadeath didn't really affect me)
