i find it very difficult to learn my heritage language, mostly because taiwanese speakers are not very forgiving when it comes to young ppl speaking taiwanese with a mandarin accent.
i'm fairly certain that this kind of thing happens to heritage-speakers of chinese languages in china, too.

i find it very difficult to learn my heritage language, mostly because taiwanese speakers are not very forgiving when it comes to young ppl speaking taiwanese with a mandarin accent.

gosh i really want to be able to learn/speak other verities of chinese.
i want to learn suzhounese & yangzhounese, but i think mandarin and taiwanese both prevent me from pronouncing those languages naturally, similar to the way my mom always complains how i speak taiwanese with a mandarin accent.
