Growing up in Bangalore in the 90s, there was a small shop called Camlin Chicken, run by an elderly Anglo-Indian gentleman, serving the most incredible rotisserie chicken, marinated in a flavourful spice blend. Sadly, after he passed, the store shut too. I often find myself longing for that taste.

This work opens up fascinating questions abt the evolutionary adaptations of PC development in large-brained species. Why do they take so long to mature? What roles might those lingering cell cycle programs play? We’re just scratching the surface — lots more to come. @neurodevkathy.bsky.social

Despite their early birth, Purkinje cells take an unusually long time to mature, stretching well into the 3rd trimester and postnatal years. Intriguingly, some Purkinje cells continue to express cell cycle genes even after differentiation, challenging conventional definitions of postmitotic neurons.
