I'm not saying that this wasn't a bad look, but again - if you're basically locked into a spot because you're ahead of the other two teams vying for that final one, that would set a precedent that you should just opt out of a CCG then.

I don‘t disagree with the lack of consistency or sound logic, but it‘s also a different process altogether and how automatic bids work. In this case, Alabama was clearly locked into a spot. I mean, if they say the team suffered a sudden case of the flu and the CCG is cancelled, they‘re not punished

However, based on Tulane getting that final automatic bid, Notre Dame have to be out instead of Miami, due to the head-to-head, and the fact you can't punish Alabama for losing in a conference championship game, to a team they already beat at their house.
