Another one to look at I don't hear too much about on Western FinTwit is Kioxia (TSE: 285A). NAND manufacturer spun off from Toshiba. Gone supernova last few months, similar to SanDisk and WD. Worth watching that one too and seeing any divergences from US-listed memory stocks.

been quite the ride for Asian equity enjoyers like myself the past few months. Takaichi's personal popularity is astounding, but will it be enough to get the voters to forget recent LDP chaos and reward them with an outright majority?

Ah yes, back when PC and console games could be completely different. Rising Hour console only, same with the Ghost Recon. Pacific Assault PC only because consoles already had Rising Sun lol.

The weirdest one to young me was the Tiger Woods games being completely different on PC to Console

Been doing a lot of research on Square Enix for my upcoming pieces and it's insane how the price of games just hasn't gone up with inflation and dev costs. Final Fantasy VII costing $80m in 2025 dollars was considered ridiculous for its time!

Really not sure what to think over there. Obviously Yen has weakened and helped exporters maybe bite a bit of the tariff impact but it's gone supernova since the new Prime Minister was appointed. I've got a bit of money in JP equities but feels like a crucial market to keep an eye on atm

Nikkei's gone crazy on this snap election rumour. Still not sure what to make of it

Feels very similar in a way to these super cheap abandoned homes in Italy.....which are in the middle of a dying out village with literally zero amenities for miles and probably one terribly maintained road to the nearest town + house itself needing a revamp ASAP

I have more in Japanese banks than US banks and I'm honestly happy with it. Cannot be arsed with the ridiculous populism this midterm cycle is gonna bring out. As a small retail guy (also helping my Dad), moving to Asian equities has worked incredibly well recently

must be getting up to triple digit trailing P/E and literally no-one cares lmao.

I want to put spread this so bad but retail degeneracy stays irrational longer than i can stay solvent etc
January 6, 2026 at 3:06 PM
This has also got me thinking about the retail side more, and how its evolved.

I remember back in the mid 2010s, the "degen" trading side of FinTwit was heavily Forex focused. Crypto craze mainstream late 2010s, options didn't really break out until Robinhood + COVID wallstreetbets surge?

Ashamed to say I got into FinTwit during my first year of uni (2015) via.....ZeroHedge (looking for sources for econ assignment, oh dear)

Turns out using part of the student loan to trade forex in 2016 was me being too ahead of the curve in terms of retail trading exlosion

I know someone who worked for a Conservative think tank during Trump 1. This is very accurate. All he does is sit and watch Fox News all day and is very easily distracted by whatever shiny thing people around him are talking about

Always worth checking the OFCOM survey in the UK they do about screen time every year. I'm a zillennial (just turned 30) but turns out for how addicted I am to my phone I'm Gen X at heart. Under 25s basically living on screens

One of the many things eating up by a tech giant and in this case the culprit seems to be YouTube

Unfortunately despite the fact it does seem to have a lot of good child-friendly content, I just don't trust the algorithm to not feed something...odd to a child

my next post is going to be a long, detailed look at Square Enix with regards to the activist investor who is buying up a large stake in the company, and recently released a 112 page presentation criticising their business practices.

I love finance and Final Fantasy, its been fun to write.

Oh my goodness me what a find

Street Fighter II intro and they actually sound good

it's too good. £13. Front is just Sonic Firestorm album art but the back is hilarious

Can't be imagine being someone who can actually say "yeah I saw DragonForce in 2004 in "The Rock Pub, Thailand".

Also kind of makes me sad thinking about how many small UK venues on this are probably shut now
January 2, 2026 at 2:02 PM
Lmao this thread makes me want to break out the 2004 DragonForce tour shirt I own (not sure if fortunately or unfortunately), the back of which says "EXTREME POWER METAL DEMOLITION SQUAD"

Guitar Hero really did a number on me

There's an article I read a few weeks ago about someone who went to an ICE recruitment centre and why people want to sign up. One of them says his friends "drive and show off their Lambos on Insta" and he wants that money.

Social media has destroyed young people's sense of realism

Attention economy, addicted to social media and this is the shit that gets the clicks and reacts. Click/ragebait, but for "sport"
