One thread through Hampton’s history I find both interesting and endearing is its role as a favoured destination for those seeking refuge or relaxation, whether from war, plague, rising property prices or just for a jolly.

Interesting find while reading up on Christopher Wren’s planning for rebuilding Hampton Court Palace for William III and Mary II: a (completely unsourced and unverified) assertion William initially considered demolishing the palace completely and rebuilding upriver on the other side of Hampton.

First post is this glorious aerial photo of Hampton Waterworks taken in the summer of 1950. It shows the waterworks at their greatest extent, including the filter beds next to Rosehill (right of image).
